OPEN CLASS PHOTOGRAPHY RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS

PHOTOGRAPHY

 

 

 

Rules:

1.     All State of WI and Jefferson County rules apply.  Both sets of rules are found in the front portion of this book.

2.     Open class exhibits are open to Jefferson County residents and adjoining counties as space permits.

3.     PLEASE NOTE DATE CHANGE:  Entries in this Department are to be brought to the fairgrounds on the Wednesday, July 2, 2008 and Thursday, July 2, 2009 between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Late entries will automatically be disqualified.  Judging will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday July 3, 2008 and Friday, July 3, 2009   Exhibitors are encouraged to attend.

4.     Exhibitor will be classed as Amateur or Professional.  (Exhibitor may not exhibit both categories.)  A person who derives their main source of living from the sale of their photography or advertises to do photography commercially must enter the professional class..

5.     All photography must be taken by the exhibitor and may not have been exhibited at a previous Jefferson County Fair.

6.     Only one entry per Lot Number per exhibitor and NO changes after entries are turned in.

7.     No nude pictures allowed.

8.     A photo from the same negative/slide can not be used for more than one entry.  (Individual or Collection)

9.     A bracketed negative/slide of the same subject can not be used in successive years.

10.  A photo can not be entered as a 5” x 7” vertical one year and an 8” x 10” horizontal the next year or any other combination of size and orientation.

11.  Each entrant per household should have different subject matter per lot.

12.  Wildlife entries to be as found in nature, not in a zoo or exhibit etc.

Amateur Class A and B:

13.  All entries are to be single photo except the Collection entries.

14.  For Individual entries, minimum photo size shall be 5” x 7” and maximum photo size shall be 11” x 14”.    All entries must be mounted securely on a piece of matboard or frameboard or be framed and be prepared for hanging.  Maximum frame size to be 11” x 14”.  Matting is allowed.  Matboard or foamboard size shall be 8: x 10” for 5” x 7” entries and 11” x 14” for 8” x 10” or 8” x 12” entries.

15.  For Collection entries, photo size shall be 4” x 6”.  Photos must be mounted on one piece 11” x 14”matboard or foamboard. 

16.  Thickness of matboard to be such that it is rigid and will not fold up by itself (approximately 1/16” thick).  White is preferred.  Color is optional if it enhances the photo(s). Foamboard thickness to be standard (approx. ¼”).

17.  Matboard  or foamboard shall be prepared for hanging by using two ¼” diameter holes spaced a minimum of 6” apart or in increments of 1”, and be approximately 3/8” down from the top.  This will allow them to be displayed using two pegboard hooks.  Dimensions given are guidelines for ease of display only.

18.  All wood frames shall be prepared for hanging using screw eyes and stranded picture frame wire.  Screw eyes to be a minimum of 3” and a maximum of 5” below the top.  Loop of wire shall be a minimum of 1” below the top of the frame.  Dimensions may vary with the size of the frame and are guidelines for ease of display only.  Sawtooth type hangers will not be accepted as they do not fit on the large pegboard hooks.

19.  All other frames such as metal, plastic, shadow box etc. must be prepared appropriately to hang straight on large pegboard hooks.  Sawtooth type hangers will not be accepted as they do not fit on the pegboard hooks. 

20.  Mount entry tag in the lower left or right hand corner as close to the frame, matboard or foamboard as possible.  Entry tags to be picked up at the Fair Office prior to entry date.

Amateur Digital/Computer Enhancement Class C:

21.  This class is for any photo taken with a film or digital camera.  The resultant photo or digital image is to then be enlarged using a personal computer and printer with the final enlargement to be 5” x 7” min. and 8” x 12” max.  The resulting enlargement shall show change by addition, deletion, color change or cropping etc.  Judging will also be based on the standard rules of composition.  The original scanned in print or a print of the pre-changed digital image shall be submitted.  It must be the work of the exhibitor.  Downloading an image from the Internet is not allowed.  The afore mentioned rules also apply.

Professional Class D:

22.  Pictures may be black and white or color.  All pictures must be framed and prepared for hanging.  The afore mentioned rules also apply, except the photo size shall be 8” x 10” minimum and 11” x 14” maximum.

7.     Scenery or Landscape

8.     Architecture

9.     Seasonal Scene

10.  Sunrise or Sunset

11.  Clouds

12.  Wildlife – Animal (as found in nature)

13.  Wildlife – Plant (as found in nature)

14.  Flowers

15.  Animal or Pet – Domestic

16.  Agriculture Activity

17.  Collection of 3 picture of a person, baby or children

18.  Collection of 3 travel scenes

19.  Collection of 3 pictures on a related subject

20.  After dark – No Flash

21.  Silhouette

22. Any other photo.  Must not fit into any other category listed above

 

Class C – Amateur – Digital/Computer Enhancement Class

1.     Portrait – Individual

2.     Portrait – 2 or more persons

3.     Baby or Children

4.     Scenery or Landscape

5.     Architecture

6.     Seasonal Scene

7.     Sunrise or Sunset

8.     Flowers

9.     Animal or Pet – Domestic

10.  Action – Non Sport

11.  Agriculture Activity

12.  Any other photo.  Must not fit into any other category listed above

 

Class D – Professional – Black and White or Color Prints

1.     Portrait – Individual (Indoors/Outdoors; Formal/Informal)

2.     Portrait – Family (Indoors/Outdoors, Formal/Informal)

3.     Portrait – Wedding Couple Only (Indoors/Outdoors)

4.     Portrait – Wedding Group (Indoors/Outdoors)

5.     Baby or Children

6.     Unlimited – Your own idea:  Must not fit into any category listed above
