JUNIOR CLASS SWINE RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS 2008-2009


 

Department 3

SWINE

RULES:

1.    All State of Wisconsin mandatory health regulations apply. See County & District Fairs Rules and Regulations of Animal Health in front of this book.

2.    All Jefferson County Junior Fair Rules, Ethics Policy and Show Ring Ethics apply as printed in the front of this book.

3.    The superintendent may also disqualify any exhibitor who has failed to have health papers checked or who exhibits lack of good Herdsmanship.

4.    Junior Fair exhibitors must show their own animals unless special permission is granted by the Superintendent for another Junior Fair Exhibitor to show the animal (s).

5.    Breeding stock, light weight, non-MAP market will be shown on Wednesday and MAP Market animals and showmanship will be shown on Thursday. 

6.    A $.50 per head non-refundable, stall fee will be charged.

7.    All entries and registration papers must be checked in with the superintendent upon arrival at the fair grounds.

Age Classifications

March Pig-Born between March 1 and March 31 of current year.

February Pig-Born between Feb. 1 and Feb. 29 of current year.

January Pig-Born between Jan. 1 and Jan. 31 of current year.

Fall Pig-Born between July 1 and Dec. 31 preceding exhibit year.

Junior Yearling Pig-Born between Jan. 1 and June 30 of preceding exhibit year.

Class A - Berkshire

Class B - Duroc Jersey

Class C - Chester White

Class D - Hampshire

Class E - Yorkshire

Class F - Poland China & Spotted Poland China

Class G - Any Other Breed Class (purebred only)

Breeding Classes - all purebred animals

Premiums: Classes A - J (Danish) $6.00-5.00-4.00-3.00

MARKET HOGS

RULES:

1.    The exhibitor is limited to two market hog entries

2.    Market hogs will show in a light, medium or heavy weight class.  Weight class will be determined by ending weight. 

3.    MAP ID Market hogs (lots 1-2) Entries must be identified by the exhibitor at the Spring MAP weigh-in

4.    Non-MAP ID market hogs (lots 3-4) MAP ID animals are ineligible for these lots.  Entries are not eligible for the MAP sale

5.    Final placing on live merit-decided by judge

6.   AN EXHIBITOR MAY SHOW 2 MARKET HOGS either MAP ID OR NON-MAP ID not both

7.    If 16 or more hogs are exhibited in any one of the weight classes, the class may be divided into equal size groups, and each group shown as a class.

8.    Crossbred or purebred market hogs may be shown.

CLASS J - Any Breed Market Hog

1.    Market MAP ID barrow or gilt.  Animal #1

2.    Market MAP ID barrow or gilt.  Animal #2

3.    Market NON-MAP ID barrow or gilt.  Animal #1

4.    Market NON-MAP ID barrow or gilt.  Animal #2

5.    Grand Champion MAP ID Market hog

6.    Reserve Champion MAP ID Market hog

CLASS K - SHOWMANSHIP

RULES:

1.   Swine exhibitors MUST ENTER SHOWMANSHIP to be entered.

2.    Showmanship will be judged last on judging day.

Premiums: (Danish) $3.00-2.50-2.00-1.50

 1. Senior Showmanship. Members Grade 9 & Up

 2. Intermediate Showmanship. Members Grade 6 to 8

 3. Beginners Showmanship. Members Grade 3 to 5

 4. Top Showmanship Overall - Award

 

CLASS L - HERDSMANSHIP

Herdsmanship Must Be Entered BY CLUB LEADER In Club Name. Please make out a regular fair entry blank in club name only NOT individual.
