JUNIOR CLASS HOME ENVIRONMENT RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS

 

2008-2009

Department 28

HOME ENVIRONMENT

RULES:

1.     All State of Wisconsin and Jefferson County Fair rules apply. Both sets of rules are located in the front of this book.

2.     Open to members enrolled in a Home Environment.

3.     Only one entry may be exhibited for each lot number in those classes that apply to your grade.

4.     Exhibitors are encouraged to incorporate various techniques in making articles listed in the lot numbers. Possible techniques include, but are not limited to: macramé, stitchery, weaving, patch work, appliqué, needlepoint, batik, wood, etc.

5.     Article not completed or with wet paint or tacky finishes will be disqualified.

6.     Use of pre-cut materials or kits is permissible where appropriate to project.

7.     Attach a 3x5 card securely to the entry tag for ALL Home Environment entries with the following information:

*Cost of Items

*Room to be used in (Real or Fictitious)

        *How will item be used

        *Where will it be used

*Other colors in the room (walls, floor, furniture, furniture wood, fabrics)

8.     Failure to provide this information on a 3x5 card will automatically drop the entry one placing.

9.     All lot numbers with an (*) asterisk require a before and/or after picture.

 

CLASS A - Home Environment (Grade 3-5) LOT # 1-21

CLASS B - Home Environment (Grade 6-8) LOT # 1-31

CLASS C - Home Environment (Grade 9+)   LOT # 1-31

2.     Stuffed Animal, Toy or Pillow

3.     Floor Pillow, Hassock, or Bean Bag Chair

4.     Storage organizer for personal items (shoes, jewelry, etc.)

5.     Useful Storage unit for Books, records, collections, etc.

6.     Chair covering (pad, cushion, or slipcovers)

7.     Table covering (one tablecloth or table runner or set of 4 placemats or 4 napkins)

8.     Wall or Door hanging

9.     Useful accessory for any room

10.  Decorative accessory for any room

11.  Message or Bulletin Board

12.  Holiday ornaments (3 different techniques) Minimum of 3 ornaments

13.  Any Holiday Decoration (table, wall, door, window or floor)

14.  Sewn Holiday Decoration (table, wall, door, window or floor)

15.  *Window treatment (curtains, drapes, shades, etc.)

16.  Energy conservation project for the home (draft dodger, etc.)

17.  Quilt, bedspread, comforter or other bed covering

18.  Lamp and/or shade

19.  Room Divider

20.  Floor Plan Study - A scale drawing of a room and the furniture before and after you re-arrange the room. Explain why you made the changes and what room it is.

21.  *Finished, refinished or remodeled piece of furniture (including statement of what work was done)

CLASS B & C ONLY

22.  Sewn Curtains or Drapes

23.  Sewn Storage Accessory

24.  Sewn Outdoor Accessory (picnic tablecloth, sleeping bag, backpack, hammock, windsock, etc.)

25.  Piecework quilt-tied

26.  Small quilted or appliquéd item (wall hanging)

27.  *Re-upholstered piece of furniture

28.  "Design Notebook" illustrating experiments and various techniques and designs learned through color, texture, lines, forms and shapes.

29.  A sketch, display and/or picture showing a plan and decorations for entertaining. Indicate occasion, description of participants, table setting, decorations and menu. (Ex: Birthday party for five 5 year olds)

30.  Cardboard model or before/after pictures of a room showing change through the use of pattern or texture.

31.  Exhibit illustrating and explaining possible careers in home environment.

 

Premiums: CLASS A (face to face) $2.00-1.75-1.50-1.25

Premiums: CLASS B (face to face) $2.50-2.25-2.00-1.75

Premiums: CLASS C (face to face) $3.00-2.75-2.50-2.25

 

HOME ENVIRONMENT/PLANT CRAFT

RULES:

  1.  Open to members enrolled in a Home Environment project, Plant Craft project or youth doing similar work.

  2.  Only one entry may be exhibited for each lot number in the class that applies to your grade.

  3.  All exhibits should be listed under the lot number where the majority of the materials best fits. Examples of arrangements are a wreath, swag or a display to sit flat on a table.

  4.  Where asterisk (*) is indicated, major part of display is manmade. Filler may be natural plant material (s).

 

CLASS D - Plant Craft (Grade 3-6)

CLASS E - Plant Craft (Grade 7 & up)

1.     Centerpiece for family dining table using flowers

2.     Dried arrangement (must be natural dried plant material)

3.     Centerpiece with holiday theme

4.     Flower and/or twig arrangement over 6" high and 6"wide using flowers

5.     Small Flower and/or twig arrangement not over 6" high and 6" wide using flowers

6.     *Arrangement using artificial flowers

7.     *Arrangement using hand-made flowers, made and arranged by member

8.     *Wall hanging using artificial flowers (wreath, swag, etc.)

9.     *One-sided arrangement using artificial flowers

10.  *Centerpiece for family dining table, using a holiday theme, using artificial flowers.

11.  Exhibit using material dried by member

12.  Corsage using dried or silk flowers

13.  Any other Plant Craft

Premiums: CLASS D (face to face) $2.50-2.25-2.00-1.75

Premiums: CLASS E (face to face) $3.00-2.75-2.50-2.25
