OPEN CLASS PHOTOGRAPHY RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS

Department 120

Rules:

1.     All State of WI and Jefferson County rules apply.  Both sets of rules are found in the front portion of this book.

2.     Open class exhibits are open to Jefferson County residents & residents of adjoining counties:  Rock, Walworth, Waukesha, Dane and Dodge, space permitting.

3.     Entries in this Department are to be brought to the fairgrounds on the Thursday before Fair week between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.  Late entries will automatically be disqualified.  Judging will begin at 1:00 p.m. on the Friday before Fair week.  Exhibitors are encouraged to attend.

4.     Exhibitors will be classed as Amateur or Professional.  (Exhibitor may not exhibit in both categories.)  A person who derives their main source of living from the sale of their photography must enter the Professional class.

5.     All photography must be taken by the exhibitor and may not have been exhibited at a previous Jefferson County Fair.

6.     Only one entry per Lot Number per exhibitor and NO changes after entries are turned in.

7.     No nude pictures allowed.

8.     A photo from the same negative/slide can not be used for more than one entry.  (Individual or Collection)

9.     A bracketed negative/slide of the same subject can not be used in successive years.

10.  A photo can not be entered as a 5” x 7” vertical one year and an 8” x 10” horizontal the next year or any other combination of size and orientation.

11.  Each entrant per household should have different subject matter per lot.

Amateur Class A and B:

12.  All entries are to be single photo except the Collection entries.

13.  For Individual entries, minimum photo size shall be 5” x 7” and maximum photo size shall be 11” x 14”.    All entries must be mounted securely on a piece of tagboard/matboard or be framed and be prepared for hanging.

14.  Matting for Individual entries is allowed.

15.  For Collection entries, photo size shall not be larger than 4” x 6”.  Photos must be mounted on one piece of tagboard/matboard.  NO frames for these entries.

16.  Tagboard/matboard size shall be 11” x 14” only for individual or Collection entries.  Thickness to be such that it is rigid and will not fold up by itself (approximately 1/16” thick).  White is preferred.  Color is optional if it enhances the photo(s).

17.  Tagboard/matboard shall be prepared for hanging by using two ¼” diameter holes spaced a minimum of 6” apart or in increments of 1”, and be approximately 3/8” down from the top.  This will allow them to be displayed using two pegboard hooks.  Dimensions given are guidelines for ease of display only.

18.  All wood frames shall be prepared for hanging using screw eyes and stranded picture frame wire.  Screw eyes to be a minimum of 3” and a maximum of 5” below the top.  Loop of wire shall be a minimum of 1” below the top of the frame.  Dimensions may vary with the size of the frame and are guidelines for ease of display only.

19.  All other frames such as metal, plastic, shadow box etc. must be prepared appropriately to hang straight on large pegboard hooks.  Sawtooth type hangers will not be accepted as they do not fit on the pegboard hooks.

20.  Mount entry tag in the lower left or right hand corner as close to the frame or tagboard/matboard as possible.  Entry tags to be picked up at the Fair Office prior to entry date.

Digital/Computer Enhancement Class:

21.  This class is for any photo taken with a film or digital camera.  The resultant photo or digital image is to then be enlarged using a personal computer and printer with the final enlargement to be 5” x 7” min. and 8” x 12” max.  The resulting enlargement shall show change by addition, deletion, color change or cropping etc.  Judging will also be based on the standard rules of composition.  The original scanned in print or a print of the pre-changed digital image shall be submitted.  It must be the work of the exhibitor.  Downloading an image from the Internet is not allowed.

Professional Class:
