FLOWERS AND PLANTS
Rules:
1.
All State of WI and Jefferson County Fair rules apply.
Both sets of rules are located in the front portion of
this book.
2.
In addition, the following rules will also apply:
3.
This Department is open to Jefferson County residents and
residents of Rock,
Walworth, Waukesha, Dane, & Dodge, space permitting.
4.
Exhibitors may make only one entry per lot number buy may
enter as many lot numbers as desired.
5.
PLEASE do not bring pots or vases of value to the Fair.
All containers are brought at the owner’s risk and
should be identified with the owner’s name on each piece.
Potted plants should have appropriate drain dishes under
the pot.
6.
All flowers exhibited are to be identified with the COMMON NAME, GENUS AND
SPECIES, (IF KNOWN) on a 3”x5” card.
Cards will be available during check-in.
7.

Evaluating and Judging Flowers and Indoor Plants, (available
through the Jefferson County University Extension Office) as a
guide.
8.
A Best of Show Ribbon will be awarded in each of Class A,
B and C.
Class
A - Floral Arrangements
Specific
Rules:
In
addition to general rules for Department 115 rules the following
apply to this class:
1.
An arrangement is composed of three parts: a container,
an anchor substance and materials, (Flowers) being presented.
2.
No artificial materials are to be used unless accessories
are specified as being permitted.
3.
Use of protected or endangered wild flowers will
automatically disqualify the entry.

B – HOUSE PLANTS
Rules:
In
addition to the general rules for Department 115, the following
rules also apply:
1.
All plants exhibited are to be identified with the COMMON
NAME, GENUS AND SPEICIES (IF KNOWN) on a 3”x5” card.
Cards will be available during check-in.
Potted plants must also be identified with information
pertaining to the purchase date, propagation method and care of
plant.
2.
Plants must have been propagated from stems, leaf cutting
or root division and be at least 6 months old.
Purchased plants must have been purchased by February 1
of the current year.
3.
All potted plants must be grown indoors and firmly rooted
in potting soil.
4.
Plants and pots must be clean and free from insects and
disease. Unhealthy
plants will be disqualified and sent home by the superintendent.

Rules:
In
addition to General Rules, Dept. 115, the following rules also
apply:
1.
Exhibitors must furnish their own CLEAN containers and
display with foliage above water line.
Suggestions are small pickle jars and wide-mouth beverage
bottles
2.
Container and water line should be suitable to stem
length and to avoid being blown over.
3.
Water level should be maintained throughout the fair.
4.
Substitutions in Class C – Specimen Bloom, up to a
maximum of 5 lot numbers, may be made during check in, (ex:
substitute Columbine for Tiger Lily).
