JUNIOR CLASS SHEEP RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS

SHEEP

 Rules:

 1.  All State of Wisconsin mandatory health regulations apply. See County and District Fairs, Rules and Regulations of Animal Health in the front portion of this book.

2.    All Junior Fair rules, ethics policy and show ring ethics apply as printed in front of this book.

3.    Each exhibitor may enter a total of 6 animals.  Any combination of market lambs (with a maximum of 2 either MAP ID or NON-MAP ID) and/or breeding stock is acceptable.  Further limitations may be imposed if necessary.

4.    Sheep affected with Ringworm or Club Lamb Fungus may not be exhibited unless the veterinarian in charge determines the ringworm lesions or fungus to be inactive and incapable of transmitting the disease.  Market lambs will be inspected prior to entering the weigh-in chute.  Breeding Stock will be inspected following the weigh-in or upon check-in at their later arrival time.  All affected animals must be removed immediately from the Fair Grounds, and the determination of the on-site veterinarian will be final.

5.    The superintendent may disqualify any animal that is not clean or properly groomed and fitted.  All tails must be docked.

6.    Substitutions of animals may be made only within the lot numbers as entered on the entry blank.

7.    Junior Fair exhibitors must show their own animal unless special permission is granted by the superintendent for another junior fair exhibitor to show the animal.

8.    Any lamb weighed and identified for the market class will be ineligible to show in the breeding class.

9.    Animals shown as purebred must be registered.  All registration papers must be checked in with the superintendent upon arrival at the fairgrounds.

10. A $.50 per head, non-refundable stall fee will be charged.

 

AGE CLASSIFICATIONS

Spring Lamb-is one born on or after February 16 of the present year.

Winter Lamb-is one born between January 1 and February 15 of the present year.

Fall Lamb-is one born between September 1 and December 31 of the year previous year.

Yearling Ram or Ewe-Born during the period Sept 1 to August 31 of the preceding year.

Pair of Lambs - Includes a spring or fall purebred ram and a spring or fall ewe       lamb owned by exhibitor.

Flock - Consists of three animals - purebred ram (yearling or lamb) and a ewe lamb       and a yearling ewe owned by exhibitor.

Pen of Market Lambs - Consists of two market lambs owned and shown by       one exhibitor.

CLASS J - MARKET LAMBS

RULES:

1.    The exhibitor is limited to two market lamb entries

2.    MAP ID Market lambs (lots 1-2)  Entries must be identified by the exhibitor at the Spring MAP weigh-in

3.    NON-MAP ID market lambs (lots 3-4) MAP ID animals are ineligible for these lots.  Entries are not eligible for the MAP sale.

4.    Market lamb must be born after January 1 of the exhibit year.

5.    Must sign up for the market lamb separately, with a maximum of 2 animals.

6.    The exhibitor must own animal prior to weigh in date.

7.    All lambs must be weighted in completely dry without covers or halters.

8.    All lambs must be weighed in prior to the show.  Weight classes will be determined after the fair weigh in.

9.    All lambs must be clean and sheared (1/4” max).  No patch shaving on the body.

10. All wethers must be castered and completely healed.  If pinching method is used atrophy must be complete.

1.  ALL SHEEP EXHIBITORS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE ENTERED.

2.  Showmanship exhibitors must have sheep as a project and show that animal entered as their project in the appropriate showmanship class.
