PHOTOGRAPHY
RULES:
1.
All photography work exhibited in this department must
have been made since the
last county fair. Exhibitors
must enter classes that match the unit and year in which they
are enrolled. Exhibitors
may have up to ten entries with one exhibit per entry number
2.
Photo entries will be judged and awarded ribbons as
follows: Story telling ability within the photo will be 20%;
photo quality and mounting will be 30%; and picture composition
will be 50%. The
only exception will be the Graduate Portfolio in Class H –
Photography Portfolio.
3.
Photographs entered must demonstrate the exhibitor’s
knowledge of photography; therefore all entries must be the
exhibitor’s original work. A copy, in whole or in part, or any artwork made by any
artist or photographer without written consent would be
disqualified.
4.
Photo exhibits must be mounted onto a sturdy piece of
11”x14” black or white poster board.
No colored-board matte or form-board accepted.
No frames or hooks on back of entries will be accepted.
5.
Photo sets of 3 may be cropped (trimmed) to a geometric
shape (square, circle, etc.), no smaller than 3”x3”.
Cropping a photo must improve the composition and have
some background. Single
subjects without background would be considered graphics, not
photos. Photo
enlargements must be 5” x 7” or larger.
Photo sets will contain photos no larger than 4” x
6”.

An optional thin material, such as construction paper,
may be mounted under photos.
This under-mount may be black, white, or colored and
should not extend more than 1/4” from beneath the edge of the
photo at any point. If
an under-mount is used, it must compliment the photo.
7.
The front of the exhibit will contain the photos and any
optional under-mounts. These
items must be mounted securely with a sturdy adhesive, such as
rubber cement or archival adhesive.
No other decoration, captions, or title will be allowed.
The only exception will be the Captioned Photos in Class F - All
Class Photography.
8.
A 3”x5” index card must be included on the back,
upper-left of each photo entry. This card should include:
the camera type (simple camera, 35mm auto, 35mm manual,
digital, to be used ONLY IN DIGITAL CLASS); film speed (ASO or ISO found on
negative edge); special exposure information; lighting type;
filters used; etc.
9.
Entry
tags need to be mounted on the front of the exhibit, with tape or rubber cement, strong is NOT
recommended.
10.
All photos that are created by or from a computer photo
editing program will be considered to be digital photographs and
must enhance or improve the original photos.
All photos must be original work of the exhibitor.
The original must be attached on the back of the exhibit.
Premiums: Class A-C & F (face to face) $2.00-1.75-1.50-1.25
Premiums: Class D, E, & J (face to face) $2.50-2.25-2.00-1.75
Premiums: Class G-H (face to face) $3.00-2.75-2.50-2.25

DIGITAL
PHOTO ENHANSMENT
Must
be color photos, the original digital image is to them be
enlarged using a personal computer and printer with the final
enlargement being 5” x 7” minimum and 8” x 10” maximum.
The resulting enlargement shall show change by addition,
deletion, color change etc.
The original photo must also be attached to the front of
the entry. Judging
will also be on the standard rules of composition.
It must be the
original work of the exhibitor, downloading an image from the
internet is not allowed.

Photography
1.
Exhibits may include color prints, B&W prints, or
digital prints.
2.
Photos under “Captioned Photos” must include at least
one of the following:
Caption on each photo, a title for the exhibit, and/or
additional decorations. Any
caption or title must relate to photos and be neatly
printed, typed (or use rubbed
lettering).
3.
Each slide exhibit must be placed in its own sealed
envelope with your name,
class, and entry number written on the outside of the
envelope and each
individual slide. A
slide projector will be provided.

Class H - Photography
Portfolio
1.
Teen Portfolio is for members fifteen years and older
(not in their last year).
Entries will be judged face to face.
2.
Graduate Portfolio is for graduating photo members with 5
or more years in the
photo program. It
will be judged Danish style.
3.
Limit one portfolio entry per member.
Entries will be treated like a talent review
for consideration of possible employment in the field of
photography.
4.
Select your 10 best 8” x 10” photos from any years to
show off your talent as a
photographer.
5.
Photos must be placed within a single container:

A 3-ring binder with 8x10 sheets fastened into binder
·
An album of professional quality (not necessarily
expensive) with matte style pages that photos slide into
