JUNIOR CLASS DAIRY GOAT RULES AND CLASSIFICATIONS


Department 5
DAIRY GOATS

RULES:

1.    All State of Wisconsin health regulations apply.  See County & District Fairs, Rules and Regulations of Animal Health in front of this book.

2.    All Jefferson County Junior Fair Rules, Ethics Policy and Show Ring Ethics apply as printed in the front of this book

3.    Any goat with abscesses or showing symptoms of any contagious disease will not be allowed at the Fair.

4.    The superintendent WILL disqualify and send home any goat that smells of buck, is not clean, or properly groomed, fitted, fed and cared for at the fair.

5.    Bucks or goats with full natural horns may NOT be entered.

6.    Registered and recorded grade goats must be shown in grade classes UNLESS copies of the official registration papers are presented to the superintendent upon check-in of animals.  This is the responsibility of the exhibitor.  These papers will remain on file through fair.  YOU MAY NOT change lots after entries have been received except with exception notice from Fair Office for ribbon only.

7.    Age classifications: The age of the goat shall be determined as of the opening day of fair.  Does that have freshened at least once, including dry milkers may only compete in the milking doe classes or the Pet Class.  Does that are over 24 months of age and have not freshened can only be entered in the Pet Class.

8.    On the last day of showing, it is the exhibitor’s responsibility to clean all their pens and empty their hay feeders.

9.    A $.50 per head, non-refundable pen fee will be charged.

10. An animal shown in the junior class MAY NOT be shown in the open class by any exhibitor except as part of exhibitor’s herd entry.

11. All goats shown at the fair will have neck collars on for the entire time that they are on the fairgrounds.

 

DOE SHOW ONLY

CLASS A - Purebred, registered all breeds (Blue registration papers)

CLASS B - Recorded Grades (Brown Registration Papers)

CLASS C - Grades

Lot #

1.    Junior Doeling, born after March 15 of current year

2.    Senior Doeling, born between Jan. 1 and Mar. 15 of the current year

3.    Junior Yearling Doe, born between July 16 and Dec. 31 of the year preceding exhibit year

4.    Senior Yearling Doe, born before July 15 of the year preceding exhibit year and less than 24 months of age 

ABOVE ANIMALS SHALL NEVER HAVE FRESHENED!!

5.    Yearling Milking under 2 years of age and in milk

6.    Junior Milking Doe, over 2 years and under 3 years old

7.    Mature Milking Doe, 3 years old and under 5 years old

8.    Aged Milking Doe, 5 years and older

9.    Dam & Daughter (Ribbon Only) – Dam and Daughter shall consist of one doe of any age and its dam

ENTRIES IN NUMBER 5 - 8 MUST HAVE FRESHENED INCLUDING DRY MILKERS

10. Junior & Senior Champions – Ribbon Award

11. All Grand Champion – Ribbon Award

12. Best of Show – Trophy Award, Sponsorship to be listed in Show Book

 

CLASS D – Market Wether – Award – Ribbons

Rules:

1.     Market wether must be raised for meat

2.     This is NOT a pet class goat

3.     Market wether must be born after Jan. 1 of current year

4.     This class will be judged as a meat animal

5.     Market wether must be a castrated male that is disbudded or dehorned.

1.     Market Dairy Weather – this is a wether of a dairy breed goat

2.     Market Meat Wether – this is a wether of a meat breed goat

 

CLASS E - PET CLASS – Ribbon Only

RULES:

1.    Excluding bucks, this can be any goat pygmy, wether, dwarf breed, and non-milking dairy goat.

2.    This goat will NOT be shown in any other goat class except showmanship.

3.    Class will be judged on owner’s knowledge of their goat.

4.    Class will be judged on the care of the animal

5.    Class will be judged on the goat’s response to its owner.

CLASS F - SHOWMANSHIP

rules:

1.     All goat exhibitors, including pet class, will automatically be entered in showmanship.

2.     Exhibitor must show his/her OWN exhibited goat from a prior class.

 1. Senior Showmanship - Members Grade 9 & up

 2. Intermediate Showmanship - Members Grade 6 to 8

 3. Junior Showmanship - Members Grade 3 to 5

Premium: $3.00-2.50-2.00-1.50

 

CLASS G - HERDSMANSHIP

RULES:

1.     Herdsmanship Must Be Entered in Club/chaper Name. Only one entry per club.

2.     Premiums are awarded to the club.

 1. Club $9.00-8.00-7.00-6.00

 

Class H – Jefferson Country Goat Book – Awards & Ribbons

RULES:

 

1.  Must start with a current edition of the Jefferson County Goat Book.

2.  You may add to the basic book.

3.  Judged on creativity and completeness of the book.

4.  The Goat Book is due to the barn superintendent no later than noon, Sunday, the          week of Fair.

Meat Goats – Breeding Stock – RIBBON ONLY

 

Rules:

1.       This is a class for Meat Stock Breeding Does

2.       This class includes all breeds of meat goats, Kiko, Boer, Tennessee Fainting Goat.

3.       All the Rules for Department 5 apply.

 

Class J – Full Blood/Purebred, registered all Breeds

Class K – Percentage/Crossbred, registered

Class L – Unregistered/Grade

Lot# (Junior Meat Does – never freshened)

1.       Junior Doeling, born after March 15 of current year

2.       Senior Doeling born between Jan 1 and March 15 of current year

3.       Junior Yearling Doe, born between July 16 and Dec. 31 of preceding year

4.       Senior Yearling Doe, born before July 16 of the preceding year and less than 24 months of age.

Above animals shall never have freshened

(Senior Meat Does – MUST have freshened at least once)

5.        Yearling Doe – under 2 years of age

6.        Junior Doe – over 2 years and under 3 years old

7.        Mature Doe – Over 3 years and under 5 years old

8.        Aged Doe – Over 5 years old
