Rules:
1.
All State of Wisconsin mandatory health regulations
apply. See
County & District Fairs, Rules &
Regulations of Animal Health. All Jefferson County Fair
Rules apply.
2.
All Jefferson County Junior Fair Rules, Ethics Policy and
Show Ring Ethics apply as printed in the front of this book.
3.
All steers must be identified at the MAP weigh-in in
December to be eligible to sell at Fair.
Steers that are going to be shown in a breed class, we
must know which class in December at weigh-in.
You can change to a crossbred class, but than can not
show it in a breed class.
4.
All entries and registrations papers will be checked at
the July weigh-in. All
purebred breeding stock and purebred market steers must be
registered per their respective breed organization and be
registered in the exhibitor’s name.
Tattoos on all registered animals will be read and
checked against registration papers.
Tattoos must be legible.
Any animals that don’t match tattoos to papers (or no
tattoos) will not be able to exhibit.
CHECK YOUR FAIR
ENTRIES CAREFULLY, IF YOU ENTERED WRONG, YOU NEED TO GET AN
EXEMPTION FROM THE FAIR OFFICE OR YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO
EXHIBIT THAT ENTRY.
5.
All animals MUST be in place
by 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday of Fair week.
6.
An exhibitor may exhibit six beef animals with no more
than three of these being market steers.
7.
Market animals must be steers.
Heifers may not be shown in the market steer class.
8.
All beef exhibits are to be stalled with the club exhibit
for which they entered. All
animals must be haltered and double tied with neck collars.
9.
The beef Superintendent must be notified of any change in
head count of animals at least two weeks prior to Fair.
Any club or chapter not giving proper notification, and
therefore having excess space will, at the discretion of the
Superintendent, automatically be docked one placing in
herdsmanship and will be the first ones cut if barn space is
tight the next year.
10.
Once barns are locked up at 10:00 p.m., no animals are
allowed to leave the building until 6:00 a.m. the following
morning. If you
wish to exercise your animal other than during that time, they
must remain in sight of the beef barn at all times, preferably
in the grass to the south end of the beef barn.
The show ring is OK once it is set up, please clean up
after you are finished.
11.
All beef exhibits are to be stalled with the club exhibit
for which they entered. All
animals must be haltered and
double tied with neck collars.
12.
No butt fans allowed.
Overhead fans may be used.
Fans must be securely mounted above the animal with a
limit of 2 per animal. Fan
diameter to be no larger than 24”.
No fans will be permitted to be in the aisle or on the
floor of the barn.
13.
All stalls must be kept in good condition.
The barns will be regularly inspected and exhibits must
be kept neat at all times.
The superintendent reserves the right to withhold premium
money for such exhibits as is held unworthy.
14.
The junior exhibitor making the entry must show their
beef animals, unless the superintendent has granted permission
for another Jefferson County Fair junior livestock exhibitor to
show the entry.
15.
Exhibits deemed uncontrollable and unsafe to exhibit by
the superintendent will be dismissed from the fairgrounds and no
premium will be awarded.
16.
Fitting
– No chutes
are allowed in the barn at any time.
Cattle showing evidence of having their natural hair
color altered will be prohibited from showing.
No foreign matter or additional hair will be allowed on
any beef entry. No
artificial filling of animals will be allowed.
Clipping and grooming of exhibits while on the
fairgrounds is to be dove by the junior beef exhibitors, his or
her immediate family and/or other participating Jefferson County
Fair livestock junior exhibition.
This is a youth project and youth learn by doing.
17.
Animals are only allowed to show under one lot number
except for Lot#1 Market Steer (see note), Class J Showmanship,
Class K Club group and the calf exhibited with the cow in Lot
#9.
18.
Market Steers will be weighed and lots established on a
weight and or breed basis.
There needs to be a minimum of 5 head to qualify for
breed verification or they will be placed in the Any Other Breed
Class.
19.
All animals must be dehorned.
20.
An exhibitor shall be limited to one managerial breeding
animal. A
managerial animal is an animal that is under the daily care of,
but not owned by the exhibitor.
21.
A $10.00 non-refundable stall (for bedding and removal of
bedding), per animal will be charged.
Fees must be sent in with entries.
22.
Bedding will be provided and must be moved 2 feet from
the walls on Sunday after your animals are removed.
AGE
CLASSIFICATIONS
Junior
Calf - Born on or after January 1 of exhibit year. The calf
shall be at least 4 months old at time of exhibit.
Senior
Calf - Born between Sept. 1 and December 31 of year preceding
exhibit year.
Summer
Yearling - Heifer born between May 1 and August 31 of year
preceding exhibit year.
Junior
Yearling - Heifer born between January 1 and April 30 of year
preceding exhibit year.
Senior
Yearling - Heifer born between September 1 and December 31 two
years preceding exhibit year.
Cow
and Calf, 2 Year Old & Older - Cow born prior
to September 1 two years preceding exhibit year.
Calf must be cow’s most recent natural calf and must be
no more than 280 days of age on the day of the show.
Market
Steer – Must be born on or after January 1 of the year
preceding exhibit year. All
will be mouthed at the scales.
Those with broken mouth (not having baby teeth in place)
cannot be shown. The
official Veterinarian will finalize any discrepancies.

FEEDER CALF CLASSES
RULES:
1.
Steer and Heifer calves may be shown. Calves may not be shown in
a breeding
class. Male
calves must be castrated.
2.
Calf born on or after January 1 of exhibit year. The calf must
be at least 3 (Three)
months old at time of exhibit.

RULES:
1.
Club Beef group shall consist of four animals of any
breed, which have been entered and exhibited by their club in
the Junior Fair by at least 3 different exhibitors.
2.
The animals may be either heifers, steers or a
combination.
3.
Each Club Group is limited to 1 entry of 4 animals.
4.
Best Club Group must be entered in Club/Chapter name by
Leader on the Junior Fair Entry Blank.

1.
All beef exhibitors will automatically be entered.

The showmanship class requires that all junior beef
exhibitors show his or her own animals.

exhibits are in place.
